CCHackney Harvest Circuit Races 21

21/8/21  - CCHackney were back at the Lea Valley Velopark after almost two years absence of racing on the circuit there to host the CC Hackney Harvest Velopark Circuit Races . With everything being slotted into the tail end of the road season it would be difficult to imagine full fields especially with everyone desperate to get away on holiday after lockdown meaning that the youth races were low in numbers. This didn't deter them from giving it their all. The Womens 12 race was affected by national races further north but the 34 had a good field  and the races were run together. Both the senior mens races 123 and cat4 had nearly full fields with fast and furious racing. Unfortunately a crash with two laps to go in the Cat 4 meant the race had to be abandoned as an injured rider was on the circuit, a sad way to end the afternoons excitement.

London Youth Games 2021

 14/8/21

Hackney's London Youth Games squad for 2021.

Well we didn't think we would see the youth games this year after everything that's gone on in the previous 18 months but the organisers of the London Youth Games pressed ahead and Saturday saw the cycling event return to Lea Valley Velopark. It was here back in 2019 that Hackney won the cup for the sixth time - would it be possible to repeat this result in 2021? And with so many difficulties facing everyone did it really matter? The thing that did matter is that  bunch of young people got together and competed and had fun and hopefully made some new friends. With the event being put on during the middle of the school holidays we were always going to struggle to fill the squad of 16. Almost all the riders were riding up in their categories and in the end we had seven riders plus three reserves and they gave it all they had placing the borough sixth in the event. We'll be back next year - full strength.

Information behind CC Hackney's 2009 Italy youth trip.

This funding application to The Stuart Feakins Trust is being shared as a reference for any youth sports trip organisers who understand the value and long term benefits to those young people who get to take part in a safe, well organised and structured visit. Here is the background funding application information behind CC Hackney's early days seminal 2009 Italy youth trip. A 'jolly holiday' or an inspirational tour? I'm going to say it was the later, and in the end experiences that produced not one but two World Tour racing cyclists. One of whom recently went on to win the 2020 Giro d'Italia and the historic Maglia Rosa. A nice trip though and done properly.

Well done to those CC Hackney trainees, volunteers, staff and associates and who attended the recent 1st Aid at work accredited training day delivered by Siren Training. Thanks to Hackney Council (Leisure and Physical Activity) who enabled this to go ahead fully funded.
