Ride, play and ride again. Two CCH & ICiC supported youth groups visit Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

Saturday 11th March 2017 - 2pm
Cycling Club Hackney and Interlinkx CiC would like to thank Sported for alerting us and forwarding to our youth group leaders the entry pass tickets to see an excellent performance of William Shakespeare's; The Taming of the Shrew. It was at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre London SE1 and If it wasn't for this we'd most probably not of made it down to see it. After the show The Globe's education director Patrick Spottiswoode came on stage to thank everyone involved and especially the sponsors; The Deutche Bank's Corporate Citizenship Committee. All of our youngsters and adults enjoyed the visit and are keen to come back again, the Globe may well need more bike racks outside in future.

Ready for the ride home to Hackney, topped up with fine words, better than as the best food going!

Never heard this before... everyday phrases that came from the Bard, William Shakespeare.

If it be so, sir, that you are the man must stead us all, and me amongst the rest, and if you break the ice and do this feat, achieve the elder, set the younger free for our access, whose hap shall be to have her will not so graceless be to be ingrate.” — Tranio (as Lucentio)

“Yes, for a score of kingdoms you should wrangle, and I would call it fair play.” — Miranda

On the way out, for those that missed it on the last trip - we made time to check and respect the site of The Battle of Cable Street.

Asiago Giro d' Italia stage 20 city visit. It's a joint effort that came out of an invitation from Clissold Rangers FC's manager and genuine Asiagean Nick Franchini:

"On Saturday 27th May 2017 the final cross-country stage (called a ‘tappa’ in Italian) of the Giro sets off from Pordenone in north east Italy and after passing over Monte Grappa arrives in Asiago. You can be part of the party as an insider and guest of the local organisers thanks to our connections with our home city. This beautiful logo with the slogan ‘love infinite’ communicates that this will be the 100th Giro so this will be a special occasion for all concerned.
Click here for the details of the exact route the Giro takes. Just scroll down that webpage to see the route and the elevation of this penultimate stage before the finale in Milan on the 28th."

Once the Asiago city council has finalised the timetable for events around the Giro we will publish:

  • appropriate arrival/departure dates
  • accommodation options and
  • an itinerary with options for different cycling activities and tours.
This website features background information about the Asiago Plateau and an apartment called ‘Amore di Confine’ which means Love of Borders. This apartment already has a number of potential guests pre-registered from Hackney but it gives an idea of the kind of accommodation available. Hotels and Bed and Breakfasts are also available as options. Prices are very good value. Details to be confirmed shortly.
Please note that these expeditions are not commercial operations. However, the organisers will use the experience to help create a new generation of digital social networks to help local enterprises and economically vulnerable inhabitants in Asiago, Hackney and Todmorden to develop high value sustainable tourism around history, culture, sport and outdoor pursuits.
Thank you!
