Hi there,

Thank you for your email.

Yes that’s a nice idea, to celebrate 10 years since 2012 London Olympics. Unfortunately as far as the cycling legacy is concerned (Lea Valley Velopark LVV) for CC Hackney, it’s not happened but remains a tantalising facility prospect. It’s been a huge disappointment. LVV has proven to be unaffordable to use so far and inaccessible to the whole community. Worse, management there have never been interested in talking with local cycling club leaders about input ideas and solutions  - definitely not with CC Hackney anyway. Therefore there’s nothing to celebrate, so we’ll keep looking forward and hope for the best.

Kind regards and thanks again,

Keir Apperley

Hi again,
Please see the circular email received earlier this evening from Lea Valley Velopark. A fresh start date with Better GLL at the former 2012 Olympic venue is finally happening. Hoping for the best and a change to something better for everyone there. Btw we at CC Hackney had been hopeful that this venue would also become an education centre for coaches and community development in general. Maybe now this is it - (cycle) sport for all.

New shipping container installed at Concorde

Friday 26th November 2021

This morning another 20' shipping container has been delivered to the Concorde Centre Youth Club yard.  This is to further meet cycling needs for the area of Clapton Park and Kingsmead estates. Our first one has been great but we've run out of room there. The extra space will make it possible to do cycle maintenance sessions and to store additional cycles - especially the right bikes to suit women and girls, the main reason for our Walking Cycling Grants London support. We also have assistance from Kings Park Moving Together who joined in to make it all work - these secure boxes aren't cheap these days.

This development makes our space a much better hub for cyclists. With access to cycle mechanic training and a meeting place to go on cycling trips and coaching sessions for all abilities and ages. A  launch pad for those
heading into the Lea Valley Park and our local Velopark and velodrome, just across the Marshes, 10 minutes by bike from here.
