Last Round of the Eastern Cross League – Podium for CCH Rider!

Snow didn’t deter six stalwarts of this year’s Eastern Cross setting off bright and early for Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk for the leagues final round,on Sunday 19th January

The course set up on a schools playing field proved to be fairly technical, off chamber parts, great zigzag part along a slope (ride-able for some!), single track though wood and a surprising leg sapping flat including a hurdle, all this made trickier by the couple of inches of snow that covered a majority of the course.

Snowy Suffolk
As with all Eastern League rounds the Vets started the day off. Andy needed to get a top three finish to grab the overall third place in the V50+ League, handling the difficult conditions well, he held second for much of the race, eventually finishing third  - confirming his podium place in his first season riding the Eastern. Well done Andy.
Harry finished just outside the top 10 plagued by his chain jumping off (chain catcher in the post!).

Three riders Artie, Stanley & Harry rode the in the U12s (also including the U10s)– Artie took a nasty fall and had to retire, which was hard luck as he was putting in a good ride.  Stanley finished 5th in his U10 group whilst Harry (U12) was 16th.
Conditions seemed not to deter first year Youth rider Frank as he had his best ride of the year getting second placed U14.

All the riders that have taken part in the Eastern League would like to thank all the Clubs and Officials who have put on a great series, every event we have ridden has been very well organised, results are posted before you really had a chance to warmed down! Each course has been different but all challenging hopefully we can get more riders involved next year! We will all be back.

National Cross Champs 2013

CCH were well represented on the first day of last month's National Cyclocross Championship race in Bradford (enough riders to be included on the Club Championship)
Arriving the night before enabled us to get a good few practise laps on what was a hard course (it was the Nationals I suppose!). The course had plenty of off chamber riding, which as the morning progress got more and more sticky. The Col d’Peel as it became know over the weekend (a right angles left uphill muddy turn) proved almost impossible to ride for the Hackney riders. Just after that we were faced with a  wall of mud which was difficult to run up – a slow plod up seemed just about possible!.

The U12 had a special course set up in another area of the Park which included part of the BMX track Artie coming in 26th.

Andy running the "wall of mud"
Back on the main course first up were the over 50s where CCH were represented by Andy and Harry. Andy put in his usual strong performance and although like Harry, struggled on some parts came in 17th –Harry 28th.

Youth were next up where we had two U14s (Louis and Frank) and Ned in the U16s.  A dramatic start in the U14s when the favourite Dan Tulett broke his chain just after the pits so had to run almost a full lap -  the boys being surprised to pass him! By the end of the forty minutes (10 mins longer than their usually race) we had,Louis 38th & Frank 40th. (Dan Tulett came back taking 4th). Ned finished 40th in his race.

We stayed on to watch the Senior race and were well impressed by their ability
to ride the parts of the course we all struggled with. A great time (and curry) was had by one and all.... roll on next year …we all intend to come back fitter and climb up the placings.

CC Hackney fund raiser success

By the end of last Friday evening's club auction session, an amazing total of £1823.50p was raised to go towards financially safe guarding the club against overheads and any unforeseen costs going into 2013.
The auction side of the event was coordinated by our Fergal Byrne who had put in a lot of work gathering offers from sponsors and supporters. Offers included a hand made quilt, four nights in a Devon cottage, the cyclist breakfast for two and a uni-cycle. All went under the hammer. Committee member Patrick Field did a sterling job on stage as the auctioneer, doing well to raise the stakes and seal many good deals.

A big thank you must go to Giuliana Molinari and Paul Monks from Core Arts who provided us with their venue for the night and to all those who made bids and put their hands in their pockets. A special mention is due for Anna Hart too who had created and donated a CCH flag and bunting to set the scene.

Cheers!

Eastern Cyclocross Championships

CCh were well represented in the South Eastern/Eastern  Cyclocross champs held at Bethlem Royal In Bromley Kent 0n Sunday 9th December 2012...
The course was set up by VC Londres and they made some great improvements from the course on which they had staged some early season races.
The conditions differed from semi-dry in the forest to boggy on the meadow section this made for a good race and riders needed to pick their lines and route with accuracy.
Those who entered were:
U12's Artie = 11th place
U16-14's Louis Byrne = 30th
              Frank Moore = Dnf
              Ned O'Regan= 23rd
Vet 50's Harry Moore = 15th
             Andy O'Regan = 6th

CCH Belgium visit Gent Six 2012

Aminur Islam and Tyrrell Greaves talking with Gent Six rider Nolan Hoffman

Tue, 27 Nov 2012 17:09:43 +0000

Dear Keir,
I'm writing to tell about our fantastic trip to
Belgium. Firstly I loved the Eurostar as it was my first time in it. It was really fast this made the journey time shorter. I also loved the Van Gogh youth hostel we stayed in. There was good accommodation, delicious breakfast and a nice chill out room where we could play pool. We ate the best Belgian quality chips for lunch and along with that we ate a baguette with salad and chicken for the next day. For dinner we ate a big chicken sandwich which had salad in it with chips and a drink, it was mouth watering.
In
Brussels we went to bike shops where we were promoting other people to join us to come to London to see what cycling in London is all about. It was really fun to speak French to people in Belgium.
Finally it was the last day where we went to a velodrome in the Flandrian city of Gent, we watched dernie racing and lots of madison racing. This was really inspirational. The best part in the whole trip for me was to meet a pro cyclist by the name of Nolan Hoffman, he rides for South Africa. Nolan gave me tips and advice about track cycling.

Thank you Keir, Jason and Dodi for taking me, I had a really good time in
Belgium – it was great!
