Introducing U23 athletes, CC Hackney members and racing cyclists - Haben Gebrehiwet & Fnan Afewerki. It's great to be working with them, supporting their progress in the tough world of cycle sport here in UK. Our riders send their thanks and appreciation to the sponsors; CC Hackney, Venerdi Restaurant, ICiC and ARDP. Also on the way to joining our international Eritrean contingent accessing cycle sport, is young Okubit (16) who is pictured below along side Haben. All will be present on Monday 1st April 7pm at Venerdi Restaurant where their 'Venerdi Rides' Mks 1 & 2 are to be presented and launched. Readers please feel welcome to come along and join us and celebrate this milestone event in our development work.

Concorde riders visit Fen Court's roof top garden - 120 Fenchurch Street London EC3
Last Saturday CCH's Concorde group took a ride to the City of London to visit Fen Court's roof top garden on Fenchurch Street. High up on the 15th floor the views across London are outstanding and all agreed the trip was well worth it.

New kit news 2019
CCH's new GSG kit order is due to arrive back from Italy at the end of March. This is
fairly reliable information but who knows what may happen, given the
cliff edge B' word scenario being played out by our government since
2016!
Numbers are not unlimmeted and items will go on sale to paid up members on a first come first serve basis. Those who've asked for reservations will have one week to collect their kit, then it becomes unreserved for all customers again.
Here are some pictures to go on with for now:

New member Okubit at Fawcett bike maintenance club
Young Eritrean club members and avid sports cyclists, Okubit and Haben visited Fawcett bike maintenance club last Thursday for the first time. Both worked together on restoring an unwanted old red town bike; a Hercules 3speed Sturmey Archer classic.
Cycles and cycling are steeped in Eritrean culture, the people from this part of East Africa are especially appreciative and knowledgeable about bikes. Okubit helped Haben sort out the Brakes, headset, drive chain, saddle, bottom bracket, tyres and wheels leaving two jobs to do next week - fitting the new gear changer and second hand rack. It's stuck in top gear for now but next week they are returning to get the gear changer fitted.
Haben "This is a useful A to B ride for me. I'll be using it for getting to and from collage, social visits and shopping but probably not for racing though!"

According to whatsapp reports this social ride was an enjoyable & fun time. For those who were unable to attend let's hope that it becomes another CCH annual tradition and make it next time - good going and roll on 2019 - happy new year!

Young Hasbi gets younger Omar on the way with his first bike - seasons greetings!
Two of Hackney boys have been brought together by CC Hackney & Interlinkx CiC. They are from two housing estates (E5 & E9) and don't know each other yet but are connected by being club members and cycle enthusiasts. Eleven year old Hasbi pictured below is a regular attendee at Fawcett Estate's bike maintenance club. He volunteered his session time to renovate an old discarded bike to donate to Kingsmead Estate's eight year old Omar, of Concorde Bike Club. This is Omar's first ride, he is most happy with it and wants to send Hasbi his thanks and very best wishes.
