On Saturday March 7th CC Hackney is holding a social event and awards night (in that order) at the Hackney Marsh Centre. Those arriving by bike can bring them inside if they are too good to leave locked outside. Cycles will be safe under door keys in one of the many changing rooms there.

Organiser & social secretary Mike Mooney is looking forward to a good turn out and plenty of support from membership.

Good Turn Out at Hog Hill

CCH riders were out in force last Saturday for both the Lea Valley -The George Niner Memorial (Youth) and East London Velo Winter (Adult) Series.  First off were Robin Steer (17th) & Serafino Sella (12th) in the U10, Stanley Boyd (19th), William Greem (15th) and Alessandro Sella (13th) in the U12s.

Kai Watts was the best place U14 coming in at the back (15th)  of the lead group, followed in by Frank Van der Pool (22nd), Ewan McNicol (24th) and Elliot Malenfant (25th).

It was great to see three of our recent joiners competing in the U16 & Junior categories, Patrick Hegarty-Morrish (6th) and Edward Szigety (11th) both in the  bunch for a majority of the race against an experienced field.  Michael Dennis was just outside the top 10 in the Juniors.   Result of the day in the Youth racing was U16 Jessica Feeney Davies who completed the podium in her race winning the sprint for third on the line!

James Burgess riding the 4th Cat "The Hare" race was CCH placed 5th with Ben Pritchard 30th.
Great name for the next race in this series which is on Saturday  "Why are you still riding your bike on Valentines day?!" -  next round of the Youth series is 14th March

Over for another Year

Basildon everything clean must be first race of season

Another Cross season drew to a close at the weekend and just in time first win for CCH!
Leaving it late in the season Frank Moore (U16) won the Youth race at Mistley.

Eastern Cross League

Starting out in September in hot sunshine and finishing in snow in February it has  been a great season

With Dwight Burden, begin his racing at the last two events we had our first Senior rider for quite a while and he finished a consistent 22nd in both races.

Mike demostrating great skill Davey Down
Mike Mooney put in a strong performance in the Vets
40+ just missing out on the podium in 4th place. In the season long battle between Tom Lloyd and Gary Boyd – Gary came out top with a 60th place to Tom’s 77th . In the Vets 50+ Harry Moore finished in 21st , Neil Irons 44th  ,bad luck (broken wrist!) limited Andy Bardill’s first season to only two rides.

Molly Lloyd (U14s) gave CCH its only podium position in the final league standing with a strong 3rd. .Connie Hayes a new youth rider to the club gave us 5th place in the U16 girls.
First year U16s rider Frank Moore ended the season strongly and climbed up to 6th  overall, Logan De Monchaux-Irons not managing to  do the full 11 just missed a Top 20 finish (21st).  Artie O’Regan was 11th U14s and Sam Bardill in his first season finished 20th.

Stanley Boyd headed up the U12s contingent with a 12th place, Mack Mooney put in some great rides but never made the magic eleven races but still got 22nd just ahead of Tom Bardill. Also racing were Alessandro Sella & Harry Gregory.

Reuben Money was the only rider who was a league member in the U10s and was a top 10 finisher in all his races, Molly Gregory also rode this category.

Just in this league CCH riders pinned their numbers on over 150 times racing all over the Eastern Region and ended the season with our best place in the Club standings at 8th  (just 0.3 points behind Hackney GT)

More Cross Racing

CCH riders took part in numerous other races this season including National Trophy Rounds in Shrewsbury, Durham, Southampton and the highlight of the season when the Trophy at Milton Keynes was run with the World Cup (first time this was been held outside mainland Europe). This gave the opportunity for our young riders (and old) to race the same course as the best in the world.
Ned at Milton Keynes
Junior rider Ned O’Regan raced on the same day as the Elite riders and raced with some of the best young riders from across the world.

Frank & Harry Moore with Connie Hayes represented the Club in the National Championship in Abergavenny.
Well done to all riders who stepped up to this level of racing it is noticeable how much support is needed with a majority of riders usually having spare bikes and a pit crew on hand.

We also had three Youth riders represent Eastern in the Inter Regional Team Championships up in Chesterfield one of the muddiest races of the year saw the end of four rear mechs.

Inter Regionals Frank (2nd L) and Artie (5th L)

So only seven months until it all starts again….
