Ashley Cox of CCLuton victorious at the CCHackney Road Race

The winner Ashley Cox prepares to salute the racegoers

The main bunch heading towards the finish area on Lap 1.

Cycling Club Hackney’s annual road race was run today on the Matching circuit in Essex. The National B race attracted a lot of interest from Elite 1, 2 and 3 riders eager to soak up some late summer points. The race set off at a brisk pace with lap 1 of the seven laps being completed in 20 minutes with the following laps at around 22-23 minutes this meant for an average speed of around 41km/hr for the 110km race. A break formed in the first lap comprising around 13 riders and working hard they took this up around a minute and half when the first prime was won at the end of lap 2 by Oliver Rossi, one of a contingent of Twenty3c riders in the break. The break also had a strong trio of riders from Team Corley in it, and they continued to hold the main field off. At one point a group broke out from the main field and seemed to be gaining on the lead riders, but by the time of the 2nd prime, won by Simas Ragusaks, it looked like the leaders would be contesting the top prizes amongst themselves.
It was another team that turned up in numbers though that took top spot as Ashley Cox of CCLuton attacked the leading bunch on the twisty Matching Tye sector of the course and led them up the hills to the finish area of Hatfield Heath where he won by 15  seconds from the sprint led by Michel Smith of Team Corley followed by Simon Alexander of Twenty3C.

CCH road race this sunday

Our annual road race is this sunday 28th July up at Hatfield Heath. Its a national B race so 60 riders from categories Elite 1st 2nd and third will be battling it out of the seven laps of the nearly 10 mile course - we should see a great race.
Thanks to all those that have volunteered to help out on the day and bake cakes etc. An event such as this requires over 30 helpers and a great deal of organising.
We will also be running a Go-Ride skills test for children adjacent to the race finish area on the green at Hatfield Heath - this has been welcomed by the local community up there and continues our tradition of giving something back to areas we use for races and our remit of promoting cycling at all times.
We will be meeting at CCH HQ at 6am then heading up there. There are club members cycling up - this is being organised on the face book page so check there for details.

Dunwich Dynamo

Last Saturday night a group of CCH riders gathered in London Fields to do the overnight ride to the Dunwich on the Suffolk Coast the "Dunwich Dynamo"

The gathering in front of the Pub in the Park starts around 7pm and from all directions you see cyclists of all varieties riding in. Once maps are purchased from our good friend and CCH stalwart Patrick Fields people begin to leave, there no start time it just happens...

Gathering at London Fields
This year the CCH's ten strong contingent managed to get off around 9pm heading thru' Hackney and up the Lea Bridge Road there is certainly something thrilling about being with hundreds of cyclists on the road. By the time Epping was behind us we had settled in a nice pace and the miles were tumbling by and we, surprisingly, soon found ourselves at the half way (almost) feed stop.

shall we get going?

Suitably refuelled we set off into deepest Suffolk. This part of the journey is my favourite, dawn breaking on the horizon ahead and riding the roads of my youth, only thing missing considering the weather we have been having was sun, we got light drizzle! One last coffee stop at a cottage (any profits made went  to the Local Air Ambulance Service and they even had Yurt set up in garden if you wanted to sleep how great is that!).

Probably the hardest part is the last 10 miles even the slight inclines seem to drain you but the sight of hundreds of happy riders chatting, asleep on the beach, having a dip in a grey looking North Sea! makes it all worthwhile..
Made it! (Paul, Alex and Frank)

Another year and another Dynamo complete all looking forward to the next.

This year's contingent; the two Andys (O'Regan and Bardill), Harry, Wojtek (on his Fixed Gear bike!) ,
Prosper,  Ned, Jon, Alex, first timers Paul, Frank and Mark. (Hi to the other CCH riders who rode, we caught sight of a couple of jerseys in the park)

CCH in track filled weekend

Isaac in action at Herne Hill
Tyrell and Logan fighting for the wheel of the Derny (thinnest looking derny rider ever - sorry Ian) in the Keirin

Aminur Tyrell and Hugo in the team pursuit

Theo, Bede and Isaac finish the pursuit in the CCH/ELV one love team.

CCH riders had a busy weekend on the track with the Herne Hill Velodrome Team Championships on Saturday and the Eastern Regional Championships up at Welwyn Velodrome on Sunday. We had a youth A team and a youth B  team entered at Herne Hill on Saturday as well as a quartet of younger rider in the youth C omnium. The A team of Amniur Hugo and Tyrell were down a rider so were always up against it. The B team of Bede Isaac and Logan had a special guest in the shape of Theo Modell from ELV making up their quartet, whilst in the Omnium we had Harry, Stanley and the Sella brothers Alessandro and Serafino. All the races were keenly contested on another baking hot day and no doubt the full results will be up soon on the BC website here. Thanks to Phil at VCL for organising this.

Neil in the senior sprint

Stan looking round for Harry
If it could be any hotter it was at Welwyn for the Eastern track champs. Six CCH riders signed up for racing in what looked like a training session for local club Welwyn Wheelers - Harry And Stan went in the Youth D boys, Molly in Youth C girls, Logan and Reece in the Youth B boys and Neil in the seniors. Logan was in the prizes finishing 4th overall and I'll stick up all the results when they come in. Although Hackney showed well in both events we could have had a lot more riders at both - especially all those riders who have been training hard on the velodrome this year. Next year lets aim to up the numbers and teams of both genders and all age groups.

Hackney do well at the London Youth Games

Kai Molly Sam and Frank with their silver medals.
Cycling Club Hackney riders filled all the places in the 2013 London Youth Games squad representing their borough. A scorching hot day down at Crystal Palace made for agreat day out with lots of CCH friends and family turning out to support the team.
Isabella starts off with fellow CCH rider Reese Pollen waiting behind representing Haringey.

Shaquille gets under way.

Aminur out on the course.

The LBHackney cycling team.

In the morning the Under 16 time trial competition we had Isabella Wotjescka, Shaquille Eusebe, Aminur Islam and Tyrell Greaves. They all had to ride 4 laps of the circuit in Crystal palace park and did really well putting us in a strong position at lunchtime.

Frank sets off with his game face on.

Molly listening to instructions.

Sam getting in the zone.

Kai clipping in.

In the afternoon for the first time there was an under 12s time trial. First up for Hackney Frank Ramsay took a wrong turn and his time was discounted - luckily the organisers let him into a later slot. He was followed by Molly Lloyd who set one of the fastest 2 lap time for the girls. Sam Bardill  followed Molly and set a faster time that put him in the top three, Frank went again and set a better time than Sam, then last rider for Hackney Kai Watts went faster still. It was hotting up and the over heated crowd awaited the final races of the day a boys U16 crit' and a girls U16 crit. Representing Hackney were Ned O'Regan and Jessie Feeney in the six lap races, with them both trying their bests against the other thirty boroughs. Ned finished 16th and Jessie 12th.  Once the judges were ready the organsiers gave out the medals with the silver team medal for U12s going to the Hackney quartet. Overall Hackney took fifth place in the competition and the borough sits 11th for all events at the moment. Well done to all the team, reserves and the rest of the squad for continuing to keep up up at the top end of the London boroughs.

TT results Hackney order - Bella, Shaq, Aminue, Tyrell, Frank, Molly, Sam, Kai.
