Nando time!

Last Wednesday 26th September CC Hackney's track training crew hosted a special guest from Mataro in Catalunya. Nando Morenito, the manager of CC Mataro (who are based at Mataro Velodrome) came to London to follow up after his counterpart at CCH Keir Apperley and club mate Judith Philip had travelled to Catalunya for training and Velodrome Passport representation in March 2014. 

Nando was here to get to know CC Hackney more and to try out for himself how to be a cyclist in London. During his time in the capital he also travelled by bike to Herne Hill Velodrome to meet VCL youth coach Phil Wright and specifically to check out the new track surface at HHV. This is something to take back to Mataro Velodrome; resurfacing work there is only a dream right now for CC Mataro but perhaps it's a small step closer to reality after this fact finding trip?

Before heading back south Nando invited CC Hackney to a spring training camp he and Keir are setting up in Mataro for one week in March 2016. This is planned to coincide with a track race event Nando is putting on. Accredited riders from CCH can participate in this; CC Hackney members, look out for dates and further information coming up...

CCH Grass Track 11/7/15 Results

CCH ran a summer grass tack go-ride session on 11th July on Hackney Downs - it was a long hot day but very positive, few crashes, few tears but mixed with lots of good racing. Apologies for delays in putting up these results.

Alex Peters signs for Team Sky along with Tao Geoghagan Hart as Stagiaires

Alex Peters and Tao Geoghagan Hart have professional contracts for the world beating, World Tour Team Sky. Alex has signed a two year contract from 2016. His first race in Sky kit will be the Ride London-Surrey Classic taking place this Sunday 2nd August.
This is CC Hackney calling on all of Hackney's cycling fans to come down town to support and cheer Alex on during his big day on home ground - at the next level. Tao's races will be up in due course, get ready!   
Ever since the 110km training rides and the educational trips we used to do (when Alex and Tao were growing at CCH) it's been steady but dedicated little steps all the way, for both of them.

Hackney Downs and CC Hackney's Go-Race Grass Track event, including the Nightingale regulars and a solid CC Hackney contingent from the Concorde Centre's bike station. This event delivered by CC Hackney was supported by Interlinkx CiC as part of the drive to bring in more of Hackney's would be sporting cyclists; those that would otherwise not join in if it weren't for ICiC's encouragement & positive interventions.

2015 Balfour Beatty London Youth Games - teamwork works.

Following up on Neil's 2015 London Youth Games Hackney Cycling Team report:
Since winning overall in 2009 & 2010 we've had four years of consistently collecting LYGs cycling medals and narrowly missing out with a 2nd place last year. I'd like to congratulate all of Hackney's riders in the squad and thank every young cyclist at the trials, the parents and coaching staff for their commitment and drive. Thanks and well done also to Lynn Humphrey & Ladi Ajayi of Sports Development at Hackney Council Leisure and Green Spaces for their support and backing for sport in Hackney. Balfour Beatty without whom there would be no games - teamwork works. 

In 2011 after defeat to Richmond and releasing the trophy after two years with it, I said that "we may have lost the cup but we won the future" with our young team at the time. Well the future is here now, look out London because we have the riders and back room staff in Hackney ready to stay with it.

Regarding a celebration dinner we are going for an evening date when we are all in town for mid September; either Tuesday 15th or 25h. This may (should) be a joint celebration with Hackney BMX who also lead the Hackney BMX team to overall victory in this year's LYGs - well done:) yep it's obviously great to be a bike rider from Hackney!

Hackney BMX

A meeting has been had with Hackney BMX's new club secretary Breon DeSoyza and CC Hackney's counterpart. CCH is happy to announce a closer working association with Hackney BMX club who are also 2015 Balfour Beatty London Youth Games winners. 
Some CCH members are already familiar with the presence of British Cycling qualified coach Tai Suleyman at training sessions and also Joe of London Fields Cycles. We are looking forward to more collaborative work up the road/track.
